My response to Janeen's "America the Beautiful" I would like to be surprised at the responses and tweets and personal opinions people have made but I'm really not. People in today's society claim that we are all equal but have to admit that we are not.
If a "white" guy shoots up a school he's considered to be mentally unstable to even uphold a trial for his case and he usually walks away. If a "black" man shoots somebody he's automatically a thug, gangster or even a drug dealer and will get sentenced for life without parole. If an Indian, Arab, Pakistani, or even a Hindu commits a crime they are considered a terrorist and a threat to the world and then people want to start wars with their countries kill innocent wives and children.
This is how all people are looked upon throughout the "American society" Hell my husband being "black" can't drive in certain neighborhoods because he knows that he'll get stopped as he calls it: "Stopped while being black" and this has happened to him before and he has gotten arrested for absolutely nothing and people still think that it's ok. Yes, it gets dropped in court but it shouldn't even get to that point.
I like the comparisons you make in responding to the essay.
ReplyDeleteI completely 100 percent agree. White men are "mentally ill" if they are shooting up a school. But, blacks are arrested for no reason. Arabs are terrorists and white people are perfectly "normal". Our society desperately needs to change.
ReplyDeleteI love the point you made here, especially about saying everyone is "equal" but in reality we're not.
ReplyDeleteI feel that comparing Janeen's essay and your personal experiences, puts greater emphasis on the idea of "privilege" in society. Good job.
ReplyDeleteYou know it really feels good to see that you feel the same way that i do and most people this world needs a change people should be equal.
